In April of 1997 the twin cities of Grand Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN
were devestated by a record flood of the Red River. The event caused the
largest evacuation of a city since the Civil War. There was a major fire
in the downtown area of Grand Forks while it was covered by four foot deep flood
waters.
After the flood the Rotary clubs in our two cities received over $200,000 in
funds from Rotarians the world over. The clubs distributed these funds to
those in need. We also received truck loads of books and toys and other
supplies. Rotarians played a big part in the recovery of our communities.
Our clubs want to say Thank You to everyone who helped in some
way. Besides the money and supplies many Rotarians came to The area to
help cleanup and rebuild.
